Stepping Stones to Self-Discovery

About Me

Counsellor & Psychotherapist

I am qualified counsellor/psychotherapist and clinical supervisor and counselling tutor.

I believe that everyone has their own unique story that is rooted in and intertwined with a bigger picture; family, culture, the wider world. Challenges can, therefore, arise in many ways and manifest in multiple forms throughout life. As an integrative counsellor, I work alongside clients, focusing on their needs and adapting therapeutic methods and techniques, to their distinctive story.

I also believe that a compassionate, non-judgemental relationship is central to therapeutic work, cultivating an acceptance that supports one to embrace themselves and their life journey with kindness. This, in turn, supports greater connection with oneself, others and the wider world. For we cannot always change our circumstances but I believe we can, through compassion, transform our relationship with ourselves and our circumstances.

Accessing therapy can be a daunting prospect for many people. To tell a complete stranger your problems takes courage. If you are ready and take that step into the counselling room, it will give you the opportunity to explore thoughts, feelings and concerns that are important to you in a safe and confidential setting. Counselling provides a space for growth and development, wisdom and wellbeing, confidence and creativity.

Whatever your difficulties might be, I am here to offer you a safe non-judgmental space for you to explore. Moving at your own pace, we can identify the issues that are effecting your life, which will in time empower you to understand yourself better and will give you the strength to make better choices for yourself and improve your life to reach your full potential.

With a greater acceptance and understanding of why we behave the way we do when things become much clearer, we can begin to live more fulfilling lives. We can create better relationships with ourselves resulting in more fulfilling relationship with others.

Individual Therapy

I offer both short term and long term counselling. Short term work is suitable if you wish to work towards a specific goal, for example managing stress or problems at work. Long term counselling is more appropriate for working through issues such as trauma or to address deep seated issues developed early in life that will need space and time to work through.

Couples Counselling

Being in a couple relationship is often very challenging. It may be that a sudden event has caused a rift to open up between you both and this has compromised your ability to trust and communicate. Or perhaps there has been a growing distance and there is a desire for one or both of you to reconnect and become more intimate. Perhaps you are wanting different things and it is hard to see a future together. In the process of couples counselling, I will work with you both to find a way forward that honours your individual needs, whilst exploring whether there is a way that you can better connect as a couple.

Young People

I provide safe and non-judgement space for young people that they get to explore their troubles as counselling offers young people a space to talk about their thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. It helps them to share any worries or problems they may have and to build their confidence and self-esteem. Talking to someone outside of the family can help your child to build trust, feel heard, and feel safe whilst learning to gain coping strategies and make sense of the world they live in.

Group or face-to-face, my supervision philosophy combines person-centred, psychodynamic, solution-focused, cognitive behavioural and mindfulness theories. I see these theories as an extension of who I am as a person and a practitioner. It’s important for me to combine these theories into my supervision practice, as I believe it gives the supervised person a greater experience.
